Philip Friesen

Philip is an International Outreach and Cross Culture Consultant, who most enjoys exploring the Bible with atheists and Buddhists from Asia as well as Iranian Muslims and has taught animists from Africa.

His book, The Old Testament Roots of Nonviolence (Wipf & Stock, February 1, 2010) is one result of his passion for teaching the Word. In addition, he began on-the-ground training in cross cultural living when he married into a firmly patriarchal Vietnamese family. With advanced degrees in both missions and music and experience on four continents, he brings a breadth and depth of learning to the ministry of SVC.

Barbara Fadirepo

Barbara Fadirepo, Global Partner and International Student Minister, was born and raised in New York City.  She began her international life after marrying Niran, an international student from Nigeria in 1973.  After living in Rhode Island for 10 years where their son Rinde was born, they moved to Ibadan Nigeria, where their daughter Funmi was born. Barbara helped start an international church in Ibadan and was active in outreach, fellowship and visitation among international wives and discipleship of international students, and scholars.

In the mid-1990’s, the Fadirepos returned to the U.S.A. for their children to pursue higher education in Minnesota.  Barbara continues her ministry to international students, scholars and their families at the University of Minnesota

Waihon and Donna Liew

Waihon was born and raised in Malaysia but came to Winona, MN for his undergraduate degree.  While there, he became involved in Chi Alpha, eventually transferring to work with Chi Alpha International and SVC here in Minneapolis, where met his wife Donna (Swanson) Liew.

Prior to moving back to Minnesota, Waihon was a university lecturer in Malaysia. Currently he works on staff with Wilberforce Academy, helping to train students to be redemptive change agents wherever God sends them. Waihon also serves on a volunteer basis to help SVC connect with and care for international students.

Donna joined the Prepare team in the middle of 2011 as part-time staff. Having served in South Texas, Mexico, and Ireland, Donna is an experienced missionary. During her years at St. Olaf College, Donna was deeply impacted by the Prepare student bible study. This was a time when her hunger for Jesus and her close fellowship with other students who were passionate about Him led her to encounter God in a whole new way.

Donna currently serves with Prepare and loves to minister to and disciple international and local students, partnering with SVC to reach the nations that God has brought to the U of M. while also teaching piano lessons part time.  Donna is also a very gifted musician, she has a heart to glorify God in worship.
